When it is time for a new air conditioner in Bay City, Midland, or Saginaw County, Chuck Baumer Heating and Cooling is the call to make. We have been installing AC systems across the tri-cities area since 1986, and as an authorized Bryant dealer we carry the full line of Bryant air conditioners. Free estimates, no pressure, no surprises.

AC Installation in Bay City MI – What to Expect
Every AC installation starts with a free in-home estimate. We come out, assess your home, evaluate your existing ductwork and air handler, and use a Manual J load calculation to determine the exact right system size for your square footage, insulation, ceiling height, and layout.
Sizing matters more than most people realize. An oversized AC short-cycles – it cools the space quickly but does not run long enough to pull humidity out of the air, leaving your home feeling clammy even when it is cool. An undersized unit runs constantly and struggles on the hottest days. We get it right the first time.
Once you approve the estimate, we are typically in and out in a single day.
Our Installation Process
This is what actually happens on installation day. No mystery, no surprises:
- Confirmation call the day before – we verify timing and ask you to crate or secure pets
- Final measurements and a second Manual J check – same calculation we did during the estimate, verified on-site
- Old system removal – refrigerant recovered properly per EPA Section 608 requirements, old equipment loaded for recycling
- New outdoor condenser placement – level pad, proper clearances on all sides, away from dryer vents and downspouts
- Evaporator coil installation in the air handler, matched to the outdoor unit (mismatched components void warranties and kill efficiency)
- Refrigerant line set run, brazed, and pressure-tested
- Vacuum and charge – we pull a deep vacuum on the system before releasing refrigerant, then charge to the manufacturer’s spec
- Electrical and thermostat connections verified, breakers labeled
After start-up we walk you through the thermostat, hand over your manuals, and register your Bryant warranty. We handle Bryant warranty registration for every install.
Replacing an Existing AC System
If your system is over 12 years old and facing a significant repair, replacement is usually the smarter financial decision. Not sure? Read our guide on whether to repair or replace your AC. We will give you both numbers honestly so you can decide. Read about the best time to replace your AC before Michigan summer for timing guidance.
Adding AC to a Home With an Existing Furnace
If your home already has ductwork, adding central AC is often simpler than you would expect. Your existing ductwork, blower, and thermostat do the rest. In most cases we are in and out in a single day. If your home has no ductwork, read more about your options on our Central Air Conditioning page. We also install ductless mini-splits for homes without existing ductwork.

What to Look For in an HVAC Installer
Not every contractor does an installation the same way. Here is what separates a good install from one that will cost you money for the next 15 years:
- Manual J load calculation – if a contractor sizes your AC based on square footage or “what you had before,” walk away. ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) requires Manual J as the industry standard.
- Licensed and insured in Michigan – verify the mechanical contractor license
- Manufacturer authorization for the brand they are installing – required to register the full factory warranty
- Written estimate before any deposit
- EPA Section 608-certified technicians for handling refrigerant
- Handles warranty registration for you
Rebates on New AC Installations

Frequently Asked Questions
What size AC do I need for my home?
AC size is measured in tons (1 ton = 12,000 BTUs). We perform a Manual J load calculation on every installation – we never guess based on square footage alone.
What is a Manual J load calculation?
A Manual J is the industry-standard method for calculating exactly how much heating and cooling capacity a home needs. It takes into account your home’s square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window size and orientation, and local climate data. The result tells us the precise system size your home requires. We perform a Manual J on every new installation – it is the only way to size a system correctly. This same method is used for furnace installations as well.
How do I know if I need a new AC or just a repair?
Read our full guide on whether to repair or replace your AC. We will give you both numbers honestly.
Should I replace my furnace and AC at the same time?
If both systems are aging, replacing them together often makes sense. Ask us about combined system pricing when you call.
Will you remove my old AC?
Yes – we remove and dispose of your old equipment as part of every installation.
How do I register my Bryant warranty?
We handle the registration for you. Learn more about Bryant warranties.
What is the best time of year to replace my AC?
Spring is ideal. Read our full post on the best time to replace your AC before Michigan summer.
What maintenance does a new AC need?
Change your filter regularly, keep the outdoor unit clear of debris, and schedule an annual AC tune-up every spring before cooling season starts.
Are your technicians EPA-certified for refrigerant handling?
EPA Section 608 certification is required by federal law for anyone working with refrigerant, and every tech on our team holds it.
Do you register my Bryant warranty for me?
Yes. We register every new Bryant installation directly with the manufacturer at the time of install. Read more about warranty information.
