Need an AC tune up in Bay City Mi? If you are a Bay City Electric Light and Power or Consumers Energy electric customer, you can get cash back on your annual AC tune-up this season. Chuck Baumer Heating and Cooling handles the rebate paperwork for you – whether that means completing your BCELP application or submitting your Consumers Energy claim electronically. Both programs have limited funds and seasonal deadlines.

Bay City Electric Light and Power – Up to $50 Back
BCELP residential customers can earn up to $50 back on a qualifying central AC tune-up performed within BCELP’s service territory. The rebate is applied as a credit directly to your electric bill within about six weeks of approval.
| Unit Size | Rebate Amount* |
|---|---|
| Units 2 tons or greater | $50 |
| Units less than 2 tons | $25 |
Program dates: Service must be performed May 1 – September 30, 2026. Applications must be postmarked by October 31, 2026.
Who qualifies: BCELP residential customers in single family homes, condos, and townhouses. Limited to one AC tune-up rebate per customer every 5 years. Funds are limited and paid first-come, first-served.
Consumers Energy – $65 Rebate on AC Tune-Up
If you receive your electricity from Consumers Energy, you may qualify for a $65 cash rebate on a comprehensive central AC tune-up. This applies to most homes in Midland County, Saginaw County, and the parts of Bay County outside Bay City Electric Light and Power’s service territory.
Important: The Consumers Energy AC tune-up rebate is only available to Consumers Energy electric customers. If you only have Consumers Energy for gas service, you do not qualify for the AC tune-up rebate – but you may qualify for the $65 Consumers Energy furnace or boiler tune-up rebate instead. Ask us about furnace maintenance when you call.
Program details:
- $65 rebate on a qualifying comprehensive AC tune-up
- Service must be performed during cooling season – April 1 through September 30
- Limited to one AC tune-up rebate per system every 5 years
- We submit the application electronically as a participating Trade Ally within 30 days of service
View the Consumers Energy Heating and Cooling Rebate page to confirm current amounts and program terms.
Which Rebate Applies to You?
It comes down to who provides your electric service – because an AC runs on electricity, the AC tune-up rebate comes from your electric utility.
- Inside Bay City Electric Light and Power’s service territory (most of the City of Bay City): BCELP is your electric utility, so you qualify for the BCELP $50/$25 AC tune-up rebate. You do not qualify for the Consumers Energy AC tune-up rebate, even if Consumers Energy supplies your gas.
- Outside BCELP’s territory (Midland, Saginaw, and surrounding tri-cities, plus parts of Bay County outside city limits): Consumers Energy is typically your electric provider, so you qualify for the $65 Consumers Energy AC tune-up rebate.
Not sure which utility provides your electricity? Look at your most recent electric bill, or just tell us your address when you call – we will figure it out and tell you which rebate applies.
What Is Included in Our AC Tune-Up
Our AC tune-up meets the requirements of both the BCELP and Consumers Energy rebate programs. A comprehensive tune-up also meets the manufacturer maintenance requirements that keep your factory warranty valid, and follows the maintenance practices recommended by the U.S. Department of Energy. A qualifying tune-up includes:
- Check voltage and amperage
- Inspect belt condition
- Inspect and lubricate blower
- Check refrigerant level and pressure. Read our post on what low on refrigerant actually means
- Clean or replace air filter
- Confirm proper air flow
- Clean, inspect, and lubricate motors
- Clean and inspect condenser coil
- Check thermostat operation and control sequence
- Perform visual inspection of entire AC system
If we find anything that needs attention, we will tell you exactly what we found before doing any additional work. No surprises. For a deeper look at our maintenance approach see our AC maintenance page.

Why Schedule Now
The BCELP program runs May 1 through September 30, 2026 and funds are limited – once they are gone, they are gone for the season. Consumers Energy AC tune-up rebates are also only valid for service performed April 1 through September 30. Spring and early summer are also when our schedule is most open. By July when temperatures peak, every HVAC company in the area is booked solid. Read our post on the best time to service or replace your AC before Michigan summer for more timing guidance.
A tune-up also helps your system run more efficiently – meaning lower electric bills during peak demand months. Read our blog on why your AC spikes your electric bill and our explainer on kW vs kWh from Bay City Electric.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I claim both the BCELP and Consumers Energy rebates on the same tune-up?
No – you can only get the AC tune-up rebate from your electric utility, and you only have one. If BCELP is your electric provider, the BCELP rebate applies. If Consumers Energy is your electric provider, the Consumers Energy rebate applies. You cannot stack them on the same AC system.
I have Consumers Energy for my gas – do I qualify for the $65 AC tune-up rebate?
No. The Consumers Energy AC tune-up rebate is only available to Consumers Energy electric customers, because an AC runs on electricity. If Consumers Energy only supplies your gas, you do not qualify for the AC tune-up rebate – but you do qualify for the $65 Consumers Energy furnace or boiler tune-up rebate. Ask us about furnace maintenance when you call.
What if my AC is more than 5 years old?
Age does not disqualify you – what matters is whether you have already claimed an AC tune-up rebate in the last 5 years. Both BCELP and Consumers Energy limit AC tune-up rebates to one per system every 5 years.
Do I need to do anything special when I call?
Just let us know which utility provides your electricity (BCELP, Consumers Energy, or another co-op) and confirm your address so we can determine which rebate applies. If you are a Consumers Energy electric customer, have your Consumers Energy account number ready – we need it to submit your rebate application.
What if the funds run out before my application is processed?
BCELP funds are paid first-come, first-served – if funds are exhausted, your application could be denied even if you qualified. This is why scheduling early in the season matters. Consumers Energy funds are also limited.
Is the rebate paid to me or to Chuck Baumer?
To you directly. BCELP applies it as a credit to your electric bill. Consumers Energy mails you a check.
How much does a tune-up cost before the rebate?
Pricing depends on your system and what we find during the visit. We will give you a straight answer on cost when you call.
Does an AC tune-up really make a difference on my electric bill?
Yes. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates routine professional maintenance can cut cooling costs by 5-15%. Dirty coils alone can drop efficiency by up to 30%. The tune-up usually pays for itself in lower summer bills, even before the rebate.
Do you service AC systems that are not Bryant?
Yes – we service most major brands including Bryant, Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, American Standard, Daikin, Amana, York, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Comfortmaker, Frigidaire, and Coleman.
