Mini-split systems are reliable, but they do need occasional repairs. Chuck Baumer Heating and Cooling repairs most makes and models of ductless mini-split systems across Bay, Midland, and Saginaw Counties.
Common Mini-Split Problems We Fix
- Unit not heating or cooling
- Water leaking from indoor unit
- Unusual noises or vibrations
- Remote control not working
- Error codes on display
- Ice on the outdoor unit – often caused by low refrigerant or restricted airflow
- Refrigerant leaks – read our post on what low on refrigerant actually means
- Circuit board issues
Try This Before You Call
A lot of mini-split issues have a simple fix you can check yourself first. Before scheduling a repair, try:
- Cleaning or rinsing the indoor unit’s filter – a clogged filter is the most common cause of weak airflow and poor cooling.
- Replacing the remote’s batteries and making sure it’s set to the right mode (heat vs. cool).
- Checking that the breaker hasn’t tripped and the unit has power.
- Making sure the outdoor unit is clear of leaves, snow, or debris.
If it still isn’t working right, give us a call and we’ll get it sorted.
Repair or Replace Your Mini-Split?
Most ductless systems last 12-20 years with good care. A repair usually makes sense on a newer system or for a minor part. But if your unit is well past a decade old, has needed repeated repairs, or the fix would cost a big chunk of what a new system runs, replacement is often the smarter money. We’ll always give you the honest math so you can decide. You can compare your options with new ductless installation, and ask about rebates and financing if replacement is the way to go.
If repair costs are significant, it may be worth comparing to new ductless installation. Annual ductless maintenance prevents most common problems. Financing options are available if replacement makes more sense.
