A new furnace is one of the most important investments you will make in your home. Chuck Baumer Heating and Cooling has been installing furnaces in Bay City and across Bay, Midland, and Saginaw Counties since 1986. As an authorized Bryant dealer, we install the full line of Bryant furnaces and back every installation with our commitment to doing the job right.
Our Installation Process
We start with a free in-home estimate. We measure your home, evaluate your existing ductwork, check insulation levels, and assess your current system. We use a Manual J load calculation to determine the exact right furnace size for your home – not the most expensive one, not the cheapest one – the right one. An oversized furnace short-cycles and wears out faster. An undersized one runs constantly and cannot keep up on the coldest days.
Once you approve the estimate, we schedule your installation at a time that works for you. Our technicians handle everything: removing the old unit, installing the new furnace, connecting gas lines, testing combustion, verifying proper airflow, and programming your thermostat. We do not leave until everything is running perfectly and you understand how your new system works.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size furnace do I need for my home?
Furnace size is measured in BTUs. The right size depends on your home’s square footage, insulation levels, ceiling height, number of windows, and local climate. We perform a Manual J load calculation on every installation to determine the correct size. An oversized furnace short-cycles, wears out faster, and leaves your home feeling clammy.
How do I know if I need a new furnace or just a repair?
A good starting point is the 50% rule: if a repair costs more than 50% of what a new system would cost, replacement is usually the smarter financial choice. Age matters too – a furnace over 15 years old that needs a major repair is often better replaced. Read our full furnace repair vs replace guide or visit our furnace repair page.
What efficiency rating qualifies for rebates?
Consumers Energy rebates may be available on qualifying high-efficiency furnaces. All Bryant Preferred and Evolution Series furnaces may qualify. Check current programs on our rebates page.
Should I replace my furnace and AC at the same time?
If both systems are aging, replacing them together often makes sense. You save on a combined installation visit, ensure the systems are properly matched for efficiency, and only go through the disruption once. Ask us about combined system pricing when you call.
What is the difference between a gas and electric furnace?
Gas furnaces burn natural gas to generate heat and are the most common choice in Michigan. Electric furnaces use heating elements and are less expensive upfront but typically cost more to operate. Most Bay City area homes are on natural gas and a gas furnace is almost always the right choice.
How long does furnace installation take?
Most standard furnace replacements take 4-6 hours. We will give you a more accurate timeframe during your estimate.
Will you remove my old furnace?
Yes – we remove and dispose of your old furnace as part of the installation.
What happens to my existing ductwork?
In most cases your existing ductwork stays in place. We inspect it during installation. If modifications are needed, we fabricate custom ductwork in-house.
Do I need a new thermostat with a new furnace?
Not always, but Bryant’s Evolution Series uses a communicating thermostat that works with the system’s variable-speed technology. For Preferred and Legacy Series, most existing thermostats will work fine. We will discuss this during your estimate.
How do I register my Bryant furnace for warranty?
Bryant requires registration within 90 days of installation to receive the full 10-year parts warranty. We handle the registration for you. Learn more about Bryant warranties here.
What AFUE rating do I need for a Michigan winter?
We recommend a minimum of 95% AFUE for Bay City area homes. Michigan’s heating season runs roughly October through April. Read our full AFUE guide here.
