If you have been searching for the MI HOPE program — Michigan Housing Opportunities Promoting Energy Efficiency — here is the current status: the MI HOPE applicant portal is closed and all program funds will be expended by April 30, 2026. New applications are no longer being accepted from the general public.
What Was MI HOPE?
MI HOPE was a grant program run by MSHDA (Michigan State Housing Development Authority), funded through federal American Rescue Plan money. It helped income-qualified Michigan homeowners make energy efficiency improvements — including HVAC upgrades like furnace and AC replacement — at little or no cost. Unlike a loan, it was a grant with nothing to pay back. The program has now exhausted its funding.
What to Do Now
If you were hoping MI HOPE could help cover the cost of a new furnace or AC, there are still other programs worth exploring. None are as straightforward as a grant, but the combination of utility rebates and low-rate financing can still make a significant difference.
